Bridal Shower:

A Bridal Shower is a gift giving ceremony for a bride before the wedding. This tradition initiated in the United States and Canada. The bridesmaids are usually behind the organization of bridal shower. They arrange the party and invite guests to offer gifts to the bride. Bridal shower typically consists of women, who are about to attend the wedding. Blessings are shared, advices are offered and best of all gifts are opened at such occasions.

The shower is organized four to six weeks before the wedding, and can be as large or intimate as the maid of honor and bride prefers. Some opt for a small event with only a few close friends and family, while others go for a large party with all extended friends and relatives. A bridal shower can be arranged on any day of the week. However a weekend afternoon, most probably a Sunday is the most common time.

The system of bridal shower is assumed to have grown out of traditional dowry practices, in case a woman’s family does not have the money to provide dowry. Friends and relatives gather collectively and give the gifts that compensate the dowry.

A conscious selection of bridal shower gift is very necessary. The gift needs to give a special feel to the bride and every person watching around.

There are several points to be considered when planning the bridal shower. The location of the party is the foremost thing. Host the party at the bride’s or maid of honor’s home. The number of guests and their relationship to bride varies widely. Select a venue considering the comfort level of the guest. Restaurants or halls are also great locations to hold the bridal shower.

Bridal shower is a group effort and hence, few items can be split up between members such as budget, favors and centerpieces.
